Now that you have heard my story and some of the stories of my people and their taonga, I ask you: what can you do to ensure that I can sustain you, your children, and grandchildren, now, and in the future? There are some small, but important actions that you can do, to help me continue to provide for your needs and those of tomorrow. Some examples include:
▪ Respecting any rāhui (temporary restrictions) placed on me
▪ Taking only the kai you need from me
▪ Recycling and reusing items, and encouraging others to do the same
▪ Using eco-friendly cleaning products
▪ Disposing of rubbish items correctly
▪ Planting native trees along my riverbanks and those of my tributaries
▪ Helping others to understand that my health and well-being is everyone’s responsibility
I invite you to post a message on this site using the comment function below, or to post to the He Awa Ora Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages to share with others the things that you are doing to help me sustain you and your whānau, into the future. Tell others about He Awa Ora, invite them to hear my story, and the stories of my people and their taonga.
